Last month, teams across Penn Medicine showed their support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month by participating in awareness, fundraising, and celebratory activities. According to the American Cancer Society, about one in eight women in the U.S. will develop breast cancer in her lifetime (the second leading cause of cancer-related death), as well as about one in 1,000 men.
The Abramson Cancer Center (ACC) at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center (PPMC) decided to combine their Breast Cancer Awareness Month efforts, their contribution to the Wellfocused “Picture Perfect Pink” challenge, and the Penn Medicine BE Standards campaign together by setting up a fundraising table. Staff wore and sold pink ribbon t-shirts and showed off their bright pink pumpkins printed with messages to BE Fierce, BE Brave, BE Bold, BE Inspired, and BE Strong.
“Our plan was to serve three purposes: participate in the Wellfocused ‘Picture Perfect Pink’ challenge, celebrate the final days of Breast Cancer Awareness month, and promote the Penn Medicine BE Standards campaign,” said Candice J. Cooper, MHA, senior practice manager of Hematology/Oncology in the ACC at PPMC. “I think our table display was able to accomplish all three in a very creative way! One of our staff even took the extra time to carve her pink pumpkin in the shape of a carriage with the message ‘Carry us to a cure’ on the bumper.”
