Every month, PPMC staff members who embody Service, Teamwork, Achievement, and Respect, are named Presby STARs. In addition to earning recognition from their colleagues, these outstanding all-stars also receive a certificate from CEO Michele Volpe and a $100 award.
Post anesthesia nurse and recent Presby STAR Mary Ellen Fournier, BSN, RN, is committed to making the PPMC experience the best it can be for her patients — even if it requires going above and beyond for someone who was discharged months prior! Fournier was cleaning out a safe for patient belongings when she discovered an unclaimed ring that had been logged nearly four months before. She immediately launched her own investigation into the valuable and learned that the owner was an 88-year- old patient who had left behind her wedding band.
When Fournier called the patient with the good news, the overjoyed woman explained that she had worn the ring daily for 65 years and still had an indentation on her finger where it used to be. She had reached out about her missing ring after her hospital stay, but no one had been able to find it until now. Her family retrieved the valuable the same day and expressed their sincere gratitude for Fournier’s willingness to take the time to reunite a long-discharged patient with her “priceless treasure.”
Congratulations to newest STARs lineup — we are so grateful for the dedication and compassion that you show the PPMC community!
