At PPMC’s Semiannual Medical Staff Meeting earlier this summer, the annual David M. Kozart, MD, Medical Staff Award was presented to Susan Day, MD, MPH, a physician in General Internal Medicine. This award — named for the beloved ophthalmologist, mentor, and administrator whose contributions spanned more than four decades at PPMC — recognizes an outstanding Presby staff member who demonstrates excellence in patient care, has established themselves as a leader and mentor for their colleagues, and is invested in the hospital’s medical staff.
Though she spent some time in Boston after earning her medical degree at Penn, Day ultimately returned home to Philadelphia. Over the course of her career, she has watched PPMC transform into a growing center for innovative research, advanced clinical care, and community outreach. “It was wonderful to come back and find such a strong professional community dedicated to providing the best care while also pursuing academic excellence,” she said. In an effort to support Presby’s “unique culture,” Day decided to get more involved with the medical staff.
“Not only is Dr. Day one of our most sought after internal medicine specialists, but she also was a past president of the Medical Executive Committee and continues to serve on the Credentials Committee,” said Robert K. Cato, MD, chief of General Medicine at PPMC, who presented the award this year. “This award acknowledges someone who has really put in the time and effort to make Presbyterian a special place, and she truly is most deserving of this honor.”
