"Bad Medicine" was one of several bands performing at LG Health's Docstock.
Rain didn’t dampen the fun at Lancaster General Health’s inaugural Docstock event where physicians, advanced practice providers and their families gathered together to put on a show. Like Woodstock, but with docs! The idea for this rock show came from Lee M. Duke, MD, chief physician executive, and Carl Manelius, former director of Physician Affairs who retired last year.
Auscultation Brass kicked off the event. The 11-man brass band started 30 years ago when a group of physician musicians sat around the lunch table in the hospital doctors’ dining room discussing their love of music.
“The Auscultation Brass has been a diversion from the rigors of medical practice enjoyed by three generations of docs,” said orthopaedist Gerald Rothacker, MD, program chairman emeritus for the Geriatric Fracture Program at LG Health’s Orthopedic Center. “We have shared some wonderful stories about our experiences in training and practice that only can be appreciated by other docs.”

The purpose was two-fold: Building collegiality among the medical and dental staff, and showcasing the musical talents of physicians!
A five-piece bluegrass ensemble, called Colebrook Road, featured Mark Rast, MD, of LG Health Physicians Family Medicine Downtown. And Bad Medicine, a 15-year classic rock cover band, closed the event. First started by friends who shared a love of music during medical school, the band now includes many health care professionals, including Ken Arthur, MD, of LG Health Physicians Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery, and Joe Voystock, MD, of LG Health Physicians Surgical Group.
The event was hosted by the Medical & Dental Staff Office and the LG Health Physicians’ wellness committee.
