Sun Named New Chair of Emergency Medicine
Benjamin Sun, MD
Benjamin Sun, MD, has been appointed new chair of Emergency Medicine, effective September 1. He is nationally recognized for his expertise in the areas of safety, quality, and cost-effectiveness in health care. He joins Penn Medicine from Oregon Health & Science University.
Sun has served as the principal investigator on 15 grants from the National Institutes of Health, the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, and private foundations, with total funding of $11 million. His research has resulted in a substantial body of scholarly work in journals including Circulation, JAMA Internal Medicine, and Annals of Emergency Medicine.
Sun’s proven track record of employing a research-oriented approach to improving care for patients with life-threatening injuries will be an important asset to his new role, and to the future of the department, our hospitals, and the patients we serve.

Rochester Named a 2018 CFO of the Year
Charmaine Rochester, DHA, CPA, SVP of Finance and chief financial officer at Chester County Hospital, was selected as one of the Philadelphia Business Journal’s 2018 CFOs of the Year. The award recognizes financial executives in Greater Philadelphia for outstanding performance in their roles as corporate financial stewards.

Penn Medicine Hospitals Ranked Among Top in Nation and #1 in State
The combined enterprise of the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and Penn Presbyterian Medical Center have once again been ranked among the top hospitals in the nation by U.S. News & World Report, achieving Honor Roll status and top rankings in 12 clinical specialties. HUP-PPMC were also rated as the #1 hospital in Pennsylvania and in the Philadelphia metro area. Penn Medicine hospitals are the only ones in the Philadelphia region to make the 2018-2019 Honor Roll.

Penn Medicine Named #2 Among Best Employers for Women
Penn Medicine has been named #2 on Forbes magazine’s first-ever “America's Best Employers for Women” list, which ranks employers across the nation. Penn Medicine offers a culture dedicated to professional development and mentorship, creating pathways to leadership and empowerment for staff and faculty of all kinds. One special initiative cited by the magazine is the FOCUS on Health & Leadership for Women program, which supports the advancement and leadership of women in academic medicine and promotes education and research in women’s health and women’s careers.
According to Forbes, Penn Medicine’s culture of equality has “empowered the women who make up 77% of Penn Medicine’s workforce to claim 55% of the company’s executive positions.” Five out of seven entities are led by women.

Nishaminy Kasbekar, PharmD, director of Pharmacy Services at PPMC, was elected to the Board of Directors for the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists. She begins her three-year term in 2019.
