The new and improved Knowledge Link online learning site released in June features a more intuitive user interface and enhanced manager tools. As part of this system-wide implementation, all Penn Medicine employees now have full access to Lynda from LinkedIn Learning, an on-demand learning solution designed to provide new or supplemental learning.

If Lynda were a person, she would be one of the busiest educators at Penn Medicine, offering unlimited access to 9,000 courses on just about every topic imaginable. Lynda courses are taught by instructors with real-world experience. Popular categories include Leadership and Management, Project Management and Software Development. In those categories, there are courses on “Having Difficult Conversations,” “Public Speaking Foundations,” “Managing Organizational Change for Managers” and “Practical Linux for Network Engineers.”

Penn Medicine introduced Lynda to provide new and continuous learning experiences for clinical and nonclinical staff. Lynda will be used to support new health system initiatives, enhance existing classroom and online content and provide new learning opportunities. Lynda will also be used to supplement the existing “Focus” series courses for new managers and provide learning on topics that previously did not exist through Knowledge Link such as Microsoft Office, SharePoint, tableau and Adobe.

“Lynda is an innovative way of offering our employees easily-accessible professional development and a continuous learning experience,” said Cindy Morgan, VP for Learning and Organizational Development. “Leveraging technology and applications like Lynda is key to providing the bite-sized, just-in-time, self-paced, personalized instruction adult learners need.”

Lynda courses are available 24 hours a day from any computer or mobile device. With Lynda, staff now have a resource to help them learn what they want to learn where and when they want to learn it. Courses are broken into microlearnings to help with focus on a specific topic. New courses are added regularly so offerings are always updated.

When employees access Lynda through Knowledge Link, completed courses will be recorded in an employee’s learning history. Managers also have the ability to assign learning to promote an employee’s professional development and track an employee’s progress. If a course is taken directly through Lynda or the Lynda mobile app, learning will not be recorded in Knowledge Link. Employees interested in Lynda courses for professional development should speak with their manager.

Answers to some frequently asked questions on Lynda are available from the Knowledge Link site.
