For the fourth consecutive year, Princeton Medical Center (PMC) received a Partner Recognition Award from Practice Greenhealth, a nonprofit membership organization promoting positive environmental stewardship and best practices in the healthcare community. The award is given to healthcare facilities that are changing their practices to become more sustainable and have achieved progress in areas such as waste reduction, renewable energy adoption, food purchasing, mercury elimination and recycling.
Lazaro “Larry” Garcia, director of Environmental Services at PMC, said the hospital was recognized in two important areas. Its 2017 recycling rate of 36 percent well exceeded the national target of 30 percent, and its medical waste and hazardous materials accounted for just 5.2 percent of its total waste stream, nearly half of the 10 percent or less goal!
“I would like to recognize our teams in nursing, the OR, non-clinical areas and support services for doing their part in making Princeton Medical Center more sustainable,” Garcia said. “It takes a village to make improvements like these, and we have a great village.”
