A new name now greets SEPTA Regional Rail riders who get off at University City: Penn
Medicine Station! The 6,400 passengers who use this station will see not only new signage
announcing the change but also new maps and interactive screens which give riders important,
real-time transit information.
“As the gateway to the Pavilion and our West Philadelphia medical campus, thousands of
people each day pass through this SEPTA station en route to work, visit, and receive care in
our facilities, and we’re so thrilled for the opportunity for the station to bear the Penn Medicine
name,” said Kevin Mahoney, CEO of the Health System. “We are proud to partner with
SEPTA to enhance the rider experience for our public transit system, which is a crucial part of
what keeps our great city running each day.”
The renaming arrives in time for the home stretch of construction of the Pavilion, the Health
System’s newest hospital. Expected to open in 2021, it is the largest capital project in Penn’s
history and Philadelphia’s most sophisticated and ambitious health care building project.
