Demetriades Becomes CEO of Princeton Health
James Demetriades is the new CEO of Penn Medicine Princeton Health, effective March 1. He takes on the position from Barry S. Rabner who stepped down as Princeton Health CEO after 19 years.
Demetriades has a strong record of establishing and enhancing outstanding clinical programs, increasing patient satisfaction levels, and working collaboratively with physicians and employees at all levels of the organization to achieve quality, performance improvement, and financial goals. He also provides leadership for emergency management at Princeton Health, including the comprehensive work done throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
Demetriades played a key role in the overall system planning and execution process to become part of the University of Pennsylvania Health System. He collaborated with other senior leaders to execute the Medical Staff Development Plan to meet designated growth targets, and was management liaison to the Princeton Health Board of Trustees’ Strategic Planning Committee that developed a five-year strategic plan for 2020-2025.
Herman Takes Reins of LG Health
John J. Herman has become the new CEO of Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health (LG Health), taking over the reins from Jan L. Bergen, who retired as LG Health president and CEO after six years. Herman brings to LG Health a commitment to community care and experience developing high reliability organizations and productive partnerships to provide highly personalized care alongside options for the most advanced medicine.
Herman previoulsy served as CEO of the North Shore Region for the Ochsner Health system in New Orleans, LA where he oversaw improved quality and safety outcomes, enhanced employee engagement and built a foundation for system growth. Prior to that he served as COO for the 767-bed Ochsner Medical Center – Ochsner’s flagship academic Magnet-designated hospital that provides education and training to more than 1,000 medical students, nurses, and technical staff and serves a quaternary-level, regional referral center for more than 700,000 unique patients annually.
Culley to Lead Anesthesiology and Critical Care
Deborah J. Culley, MD, a neuroanesthesiologist and nationally recognized leader in geriatric anesthesia, has been named chair of Anesthesiology and Critical Care at Penn Medicine. Culley was previously executive vice chair for Anesthesiology Perioperative and Pain Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
Culley has focused her clinical work on the care of severely ill patients undergoing a wide variety of intracranial, endovascular, and spinal procedures, and she has assumed major institutional and national leadership roles over the course of her career.
Keogh New Director of Peri-Op
John Keogh, MD, of Anesthesia and Critical Care, is HUP’s new executive director of Perioperative and Procedural Services. Known for his highly collaborative style and inclusive approach, Keogh has been highly effective in steering the perioperative team to optimize processes, leading to performance enhancements in numerous areas. Over the past several months, he has worked with the perioperative team to improve first case starts, leading to a significantly higher percentage of cases starting on time.
He was also a key leader in the department’s successful transition from Navicare to Epic in the ORs, working closely with colleagues in Information Systems to ensure that the intricate work this project entailed was well-planned and seamlessly executed. His work with Environmental Services to expedite room turnover times has resulted in an overall decrease of nine minutes.
