Pennsylvania’s acting Secretary of Health & Physician General, Dr. Denise Johnson, speaks at LG Health’s Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Center on the importance of receiving a flu shot and COVID-19 booster this year.

On Oct. 11, Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health welcomed the Pennsylvania Department of Health (DOH) for a joint press conference highlighting the importance of getting a flu shot this year, as well as a bivalent COVID-19 booster shot.

“Yes, you can receive the flu shot and COVID-19 booster at the same time,” said Michael Ripchinski, MD, MBA, CPE, FAAFP, chief physician executive for LG Health. He was joined by Pennsylvania’s acting Secretary of Health & Physician General, Denise Johnson, MD, at The Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute (ABBCI) in Lancaster. In addition to the speakers, the press conference featured a member of the Lancaster community receiving her flu shot, administered by an LG Health nurse.

“This year’s flu season is expected to be worse than recent years, so receiving a flu shot and a COVID-19 booster will help to ensure public safety,” said Johnson. “We encourage everyone to get the flu shot and their COVID-19 bivalent booster at the same time.”
