Walter L. Aument Family Health Center team members in 2007 at the launch of EPIC
In 2007, LG Health invested $100 million in the implementation of Epic, the electronic medical record (EMR) used by physicians and clinicians throughout the health system.
In February of that year, Walter L. Aument Family Health Center kicked off LG Health’s transition from paper to electronic charting, scheduling, registration and billing. Over the next four years, additional practices, and Lancaster General and Women & Babies hospitals came online. Independent practices also joined the provider network using the EMR’s Community Connect functionality.
The technology behind Epic has helped improve the overall outcomes for patients. “Our electronic dashboards provide clinicians with an improved visibility of a patient’s health status,”
said Dr. Michael Ripchinski, Physician Executive for Quality. “We are able to better coordinate and manage all aspects of a patient’s health, from preventive care to chronic conditions.”
The addition of Epic also opened the door to automating certain processes and further engaging patients in their own health and wellness.
MyLGHealth, which launched in 2009, relies on data supplied by Epic. Today, more than 150,000 users are enrolled in MyLGHealth to schedule appointments, review test results, communicate with their providers, and more.
