Charter
The Lancaster General Hospital charter that was signed Sept. 23, 1893

Three months after Rev. Wesley Bicksler received approval to move forward with the development of Lancaster General Hospital, the hospital charter was signed on Sept. 23, 1893. A week before Christmas that same year, the hospital accepted its first patient, Anna McComsey, who was gravely ill with typhoid fever. McComsey was discharged 71 days after her admission. In 2017, almost 125 years later, Lancaster General Health discharged more than 35,400 patients.

In celebration of Lancaster General Hospital’s rich history and values, LG Health employees are invited to the free LG Health 125th Anniversary Community Celebration from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at the Suburban Pavilion.

The fun-filled day will feature health and wellness activities for the entire family, including a walk-through human body, medical artifacts, brain- and heart-health tips, a soccer station, a selfie booth and more.
