Each year, 1.4 million Americans experience a traumatic brain injury (TBI), requiring many to undergo extensive medical treatment and long-term rehabilitation.
To help support individuals who have experienced a TBI and their families, Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health hosted the first Mind Your Brain Conference at Lancaster General Hospital on Oct. 5. The conference has been held annually at Penn Medicine in Philadelphia since 2015.
The full-day conference focused on educating attendees about research, insights and therapies available to those impacted by brain injuries and concussions. The morning opened with keynote speaker Candace Gantt, TBI survivor and founder of the Mind Your Brain Foundation and conference.
The conference included two panel discussions, as well as various breakout sessions ranging in topics from returning to work after a brain injury to the emotional aspects of recovering from a TBI. Over 80 people registered for the conference.
