On Aug. 7 Denny Burk surprised staff and his partner, Vicki Zuercher, by asking her to marry him at the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute Infusion Center as he completed his fourth cycle of chemotherapy.
Burk and Zuercher who worked together and dated in the 1980s, reconnected 14 months ago. Both had been widowed. “It was as if no time had passed,” smiled the couple, as they recalled their first date in 26 years.
They’ve been by each other's sides ever since -- through Burk’s diagnosis, treatment at ABBCI, and now, wedding planning.
The couple exchanged marriage vows at Chickies Rock, overlooking the Susquehanna River near their home in Wrightsville at the end of September.
