When Kelly Slovak and Jamie Adams found out they were expecting a February baby, Adams’ first thought was, “How cool would it be if he was born on Leap Day? That would be really unique.”
“But everyone, including my midwife, said the baby would probably come early,” added Slovak. “We scheduled an induction for the morning of Friday, Feb. 28, but never thought we would actually get to that point.”
To their surprise, their son had other plans. At 12:04 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 29, weighing 7 pounds, 12 ounces and measuring 21 inches long, Grayson was the first baby born on Leap Day at Women & Babies Hospital. Grayson is welcomed by his parents and two older brothers, Sylas, 11, and Jackson, 8.
“He wanted to be a Leap Day baby,” said Adams. “He wanted to be special.”
When asked how they will celebrate Grayson’s future birthdays, Slovak said, “We will probably celebrate his first birthday on Feb. 28, since that was the day I was induced, and we will let him decide when he’s older,” said Slovak. “My sister’s birthday is March 1, so maybe he will want to celebrate his birthday with his aunt. We’ll see…”
