Dorcas Cyster, BSN, RN, a supervisor for Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health’s Healthy Beginnings Plus program, was one of four women honored on Nov. 6 at a virtual luncheon for the YWCA Women of Achievement Award.
The winners were recognized for demonstrating qualities of leadership and excellence in their personal and professional endeavors while supporting, embodying and complementing YWCA Lancaster’s mission of eliminating racism and empowering women.
When asked what the award meant to her, Cyster answered:
“Over the past 30 years, in my capacity as a nurse, mentor and friend, I have learned so much from women of color and others who have been marginalized. They have demonstrated such resilience in the face of many challenges. I have worked/lived in Reading, Pennsylvania; Jackson, Mississippi; and Cape Town, South Africa. Now living in Lancaster, I am truly impressed with what the YWCA of Lancaster stands for. I am also appreciative that LG Health has supported the work of this important organization. The work is great and it is for me a lifelong journey to fight for human justice and health care equity.”
