LG Health partnered with The Center for Traffic Safety, Safe Kids Lancaster County and the Manheim Township Police Department to donate car seats for child passenger transportation to Lancaster County police departments.
LG Health donated the funds to provide 39 car seats to 21 municipal police departments.
“Law enforcement agencies often have child passengers during calls, and they need to have safe resources available to safely transport children,” stated Tracy Linn, traffic safety specialist for the Center for Traffic Safety. “Every child must be properly restrained when riding in a motor vehicle. In order to uphold this Pennsylvania law, police officers need to have the means to transport children safely before leaving a scene.”
According to Safe Kids, a correctly installed child restraint can greatly reduce the risk of injury or death in an automobile accident. Child safety seats have been shown to reduce fatal injury by as much as 71 percent.
“Lancaster General Health’s support for the car-seat donation contributes to our mission to advance the health and wellbeing of our community and ultimately the safety of children in Lancaster County,” said Jessica Klinkner, LG Health Community Health and Wellness manager. “Our goal is to protect children and keep them safe when being transported in any vehicle.”
