Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health has strengthened its commitment to actively addressing all forms of racism and bias that may exist within the organization, and has started by forming a Diversity & Inclusion Advisory Committee under the leadership of Larry Strassner, chief nursing officer, and Cherise Hamblin, MD, an OB-GYN physician with LG Health Physicians Family & Maternity Medicine.
“The committee includes physicians, executives, human resources and frontline staff, who bring diverse backgrounds, perspectives and experiences to their work,” said Jan L. Bergen, president and chief executive officer, LG Health.
The group recently created and distributed a Diversity & Inclusion staff survey for the purpose of gaining fresh insight and identifying key areas of opportunity. Nearly 2,000 employees participated in the survey.
“LG Health’s efforts are closely aligned with ongoing diversity and inclusion initiatives across Penn Medicine. I am grateful to our committee and employees for helping ensure that we can live our legacy in an environment that is supportive and inclusive of all,” added Bergen.
