Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health employees and Medical & Dental Staff members are encouraged to apply for grants to support their community outreach activities. Each quarter, the Penn Medicine CAREs Grant program awards grants to fund expenses directly related to volunteer projects of all sizes.
Grants awarded to LG Health employees have included:
- Thomas W. Andersen, MD, Family Medicine Lititz: His grant will help fund child care and transportation services to support refugees and immigrants in learning ESL (English as a second language) at Grace Lutheran Church in Lancaster.
- Susan Baker, accounts payable specialist, General Accounting: Her grant will support free education and career-development support for those with Down syndrome and their families through Gigi’s Playhouse.
- Carla Cherry, quality improvement coordinator, Administration: Her grant will help fund the Summer Lunch Program at The Caring Cupboard, providing over 17,000 meals during the summer to children who rely on school programs for breakfast and lunch.
- Susan McDonald, RN, clinical educator, Nursing Professional Development: Her grant will purchase life-support devices, French-language supplies and training for a hospital in Haiti, via Sustainable Health Education Haiti.
