Pennsylvania Hospital has recently celebrated several great successes — the opening of our Spine Center and Cardiac Rehab, the renovation of the Spruce Building and relocation of the Crisis Response Center, the growth of our Franklin-Bond speaker series and establishment of the First Hospital Historic Preservation Committee, and so on. But this month, I want to focus on the vital component that has made all of these accomplishments possible: our outstanding, service-driven, award-winning staff.
“Award season” at PAH started off with the 31st Annual Emil and Lynn Hubschman Award, which recognizes an individual who demonstrates the highest standards of professionalism and embodies the empathic, collaborative, and generous spirit of our hospital. Arthur Devine joined PAH in 1979 and has radiated all of these attributes throughout his years of service. His sense of calm and resourcefulness in the face of challenges have made him an integral part of the anesthesia team, and he is well-known for his willingness to help others however he can.
This is also true of Narvel Coleman, Kimberly Jordan, Peter McCormick, Margo Olivieri, MSN, RN, CCRN, Shari Parker-Rone, and Thomas Price, who were recognized for their 40-45 year Pennsy careers at our 56th Annual Employee Service Awards. It’s always a pleasure to celebrate the individuals who have devoted their careers to the care of our patients and their families, and this is truly one of my favorite traditions. This year, we honored 352 exceptional employees who hit milestones, as well as the advancements made possible by their dedication and passion. Just think: five years ago, Penn Medicine Washington Square was still under construction, and 45 years ago, the historic Pine Building’s restoration was still three years away from completion!
Whether we’re celebrating these awards, the Relationship Based Care Awards, the Nursing Clinical Excellence Awards, the Good Samaritan Award, or our many other honors, one thing remains constant. All of the wonderful things that have happened since PAH open its doors 268 years ago have come to fruition with the support of staff members like you. Thank you for your dedication to excellence and to carrying our hospital’s legacy. Your efforts are appreciated, and you make me so proud to come to work each day.
