It’s all about the patient experience. What role does HR play in that?
We all know that the focus is to ensure every patient receives excellent service. We work very hard to provide the support employees need to continue to provide excellent patient care. If the staff (clinical and non-clinical) aren’t happy, supported, and engaged, their patients won’t have successful outcomes.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
I take so much on, but I figure it out in the end because I, “always remain humble, as humility is the true key to success.”
Viola is a performance management and retention specialist. She partners with Allied Health and Facilities Management to promote engagement, support organizational needs, and work through employee relations scenarios.
What is your favorite thing about working on your team?
Partnering strategically with service leaders to meet the needs of our employees and serve our patients is my favorite part. I enjoy working with other leaders to develop a Fair and Just Culture and improve employee engagement. I love being able to help employees see the direction the hospital is taking to make a better patient experience.

What’s the number one thing people should know about Pennsy’s HR team?
We really value the impact on engagement on an organization. An engaged employee contributes to a positive work environment, reduces turnover, and is more likely to provide outstanding care. Having HR as a second set of eyes and ears outside of their department can help employees work through kinks to reach higher levels of engagement.
Who (living or dead) would you most like to brunch with?
It might seem like an obvious answer, but Ben Franklin was a man ahead of his time, and I’d love to get his career and life advice.
