Pennsylvania Hospital was a center of celebration this fall, hosting numerous award ceremonies and festivities for staff. These annual traditions honor our PAH community for their continued commitment to elevating the patient and employee experience year after year. While some of these ceremonies are still taking place decades after their initial launch, there are, of course, more recent events with new reasons to gather.
This month’s issues of What’s New and System News are rich in stories on events that highlight outstanding employees, from the second annual Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Summit to the 33rd Emil and Lynn Hubschman Award.
We first welcomed Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October with a generous gift from the Wawa Foundation, supporting the Women’s Imaging Center’s mobile mammography unit to grant better access to preventive health. On the topic of accessibility to health, our DEI Committee held its second annual DEI Summit, in which our workgroups shared progress on their DEI goals and established initiatives to promote health equity and inclusivity for patients and staff alike.
On a larger level, October was also a time of city-wide celebration, with our health system’s Penn Medicine Experience (PMX) Week and the prestigious American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Magnet Conference, held in Philadelphia this year. PMX Week filled the hospital with energy, consisting of fun-filled activities and prizes to recognize staff achievements. Similarly, our staff experienced the excitement of the Magnet Conference right in our neighborhood, in which we welcomed visitors for tours of our historic campus. Not only did our staff volunteer their time to support PMX plans, but they also helped organize conference operations for the thousands of attendees visiting the city.
On behalf of the entire PAH community, I’d like to congratulate all who were recognized for their dedication to care throughout this time, and a sincere thank you to our volunteers who made these tremendous events possible.
