Teaching Future Generations
The yellow buses are back on the road and stores have aisles of stationery and supplies. It’s back-to-school season – a time for students entering new classrooms, meeting new friends, and expanding their knowledge under the direction of their teachers. Here at Pennsylvania Hospital, we have all played the roles of both students and teachers, as we are always learning new ways to improve patient care, along with supporting others to help them reach their goals. In this issue of What’s New, we highlight staff who have stepped into these teaching roles and shaped our operations and community at PAH.
We honor the life of Michael Buckley, MD, whose expertise and leadership helped mold PAH into the academic and innovative facility it is today. Dr. Buckley served as a role model for decades of clinicians. His professionalism and kindness towards others, and his immense commitment to care, are characteristics that are carried on and exemplified by our staff.
We recognize the 2022 commencement of our Pharmacy Residency program – a program that celebrated 10 years of training future clinical pharmacists, advised by their dedicated preceptors and faculty. In June, we also celebrated the graduation of our Medical Laboratory Science program’s 2022 cohort, featured in June's System News. The program has prepared aspiring scientists to assist with examining samples and determining diagnoses and critical treatments for patients. We wish our graduating students and residents the best of luck as they step into new endeavors.
In August, PAH launched its first geriatric consulting service and welcomed the service’s first geriatrician – Rose Onyeali, MD. I am confident that Dr. Onyeali will help guide our staff, patients, and caregivers to meet the evolving needs of our growing older adult patient population.
I am proud of our staff who explore opportunities to improve the patient and staff experience at PAH. I look forward to the ways we will continue expanding care, not only through new initiatives and clinical services, but through our interactions and impact we have on others, as compassionate leaders, colleagues, and providers.
