2014 Facts and Figures Shows Penn Medicine’s Expanding Footprint

Facts-cover-2014In the 2014 edition of Penn Medicine’s annual Facts and Figures report, readers can find numerous achievements in research, education, and patient care from the past year.

Highlights from this year’s text include Penn Medicine continuing as one of the nation’s top recipients of National Institutes of Health funding, the Perelman School of Medicine’s rank among the top five medical schools in the country by U.S. News and World Report for the 16thstraight year, and capital projects planned for the Penn Medicine campus. 

This pamphlet of background information and quick information at a glance shows Penn Medicine:

  • Growing as an Institution: Penn Medicine welcomed the Chester County Hospital and Health System, which became part of Penn Medicine in fall 2013
  • Benefitting the Community: Every day, Penn's physicians, nurses, medical students, and staff share their time, knowledge, and skills to benefit residents in our community. During the last year, Penn Medicine provided grants to 32 different employee supported initiatives through the Penn Medicine CAREs program  
  • Leading in Education: Offering unique global health training opportunities and utilizing the latest in cyber tools and web-based technology, along with flexible curriculum options are some of the ways the Perelman School of Medicine stands at the forefront of medical education. In addition, construction began on the Henry A. Jordan, M ’62, Medical Education Center. The Jordan Center is one of the few medical educational facilities in the nation to be fully incorporated with research and clinical facilities.
  • Advancing Computationally-Based Research – The Institute for Biomedical Informatics is advancing computationally based research, which includes the Penn Medicine High Performance Computing Center, the Cancer Tumor Registry, and the Genomics and Imaging Databases. These efforts are enhanced through the Penn Bio-bank, a central research and patient repository for genomic and metabolic analysis.
