The Neurosurgery Program at Penn Medicine values your privacy and the confidentiality of your information. This statement describes what information may be collected about you when you use the Penn NeuroPath App, how your information may be used, and what security measures we have implemented to protect against the unauthorized access or use of your information.

Scope
This statement applies only to personally identifiable information collected by the Penn NeuroPath app. MyPennMedicine will continue to be your primary patient access portal for your medical information and records.
What We Collect and Have Access To
The personally identifiable information we will collect about you through your use of the Penn NeuroPath App includes first and last name, email address, telephone number, gender, date of birth, and medical record number.
Your neurosurgery providers at Penn Medicine will also have access to the personal medical data you enter or that is transferred through other health and fitness apps you link with the Penn NeuroPath app, including:
- Information you enter into the NeuroPath app itself, such as narcotics/pain medication usage, pain levels, mood, the number of times you fall, incision healing (including photographs of the surgical incision you may upload into the app) and similar information related to your surgical procedure.
- Data collected from Apple HealthKit, such as Active Energy, Exercise Minutes, Flights Climbed, Heart Rate, Standing Hours, Steps, Walking and Running Distance, and similar health data information.
- Data collected as a result of activities you may be asked to perform, such as a Timed Walk, Short Walk, Reaction Time, Range of Motion tests, a Paced Serial Addition test (PSAT), Tapping Speed, Fitness test, and similar health data information.
How We Will Use Your Information
The personally identifiable information we collect and access about you will be used to monitor your preparation for surgery and recovery after surgery, to provide you with notifications and educational information about your surgical procedure and recovery, and to provide reminders and notifications related to your neurosurgical procedure. We may provide pre-determined medical goals both pre and post-surgery to assist you. The appropriately medically relevant information will be entered into your PennChart medical records by your Penn Medicine care team. In the future, there may be automatic integration of the information into your PennChart from the App.
We may also analyze the data collected to improve the safety, quality, and efficiency of care as part of a Quality Improvement initiative.
Your Controls and Choices Over Your Information
You will enter information about yourself by logging into the Penn NeuroPath app. If you decide to discontinue using the app, you can delete it from your phone, and no more data will be collected. However, all data entered prior to the deletion will be utilized for the purposes disclosed in this Privacy Policy.
Security
We have put in place adequate HIPAA-compliant security procedures and technical and organizational measures to safeguard your personal information. Please notify us immediately if you have any concerns regarding your information.
Changes to Our Privacy Policy
We reserve the right to modify this privacy policy at any time and will post the changes on this page. If a modification meaningfully reduces your rights, we will notify you.
