Cancer Biology (CBIO) Summer Camp

The Perelman School of Medicine’s Cancer Biology (CBIO) Program welcomes applications from Philadelphia students currently in 9th, 10th, and 11th grades to the 2024 CBIO Summer Camp at the University of Pennsylvania.

Led by Dr. Donita Brady, CBIO Summer Camp will bring 10 students on campus to experience a full week of intensive hands-on laboratory research as they examine how nutrients can affect fruit fly development. With instruction and equipment from eCLOSE Institute, campers will learn laboratory skills like preparation of solutions, micro-pipetting, and fly sorting as they work with USB-C camera scopes to capture data. Campers will prepare end-of-week poster presentations to display their data and discuss the implications of their results for the impact of diet on healthy and cancerous cells. Faculty and CBIO graduate students, along with eCLOSE staff, will facilitate each day’s activities, giving campers the opportunity to experience independent lab work and collaboration -- just like a real scientist!
