The urethra is the hollow tube that carries urine from the bladder to the outside of the body. Urethral cancer is a rare disease in which cancerous (malignant) cells form in the tissues lining the urethra.

Urethral cancer symptoms may be similar to symptoms of other conditions. Those who have the following symptoms should consult with a physician:

- A lump or thickness in the perineum or penis
- Pain or burning during urination
- Blood in the urine
- Discharge from the urethra
These symptoms can also be caused by other conditions, so it is best to contact a Penn Medicine physician for an accurate diagnosis.
