Graduation 2018 icon

The annual Penn PM&R graduation ceremony for our six board-eligible postgraduate level 4 residents occurred on the evening of June 8, 2018 at the Jordan Medical Education Center located within Perelman School of Medicine at the Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine on Penn’s campus.

Our graduating residents:

Christian Acharte, MD will be participating in an Interventional Pain Management fellowship at the Pennsylvania Pain and Spine Institute based in Chalfont, PA.

Jaclyn Barcilowski, DO, MA will be participating in the Brain Injury Medicine fellowship in Penn PM&R.

Gabrielle Daniel, MD will be employed as an attending physiatrist at the CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Rehabilitation Hospital in Tyler, TX.

Haewon Jennifer Lee, MD will be participating in the Spine and Sports Musculoskeletal Medicine fellowship in Penn PM&R.

Milind Patel, MD, MBA will be participating in the Pain Medicine fellowship within Penn’s Department of Anesthesiology.

Gregory Robbins, MD will be participating in the Brain Injury Medicine fellowship at Harvard University based at the Spaulding Rehabilitation Network in Boston, MA.

Honor and Awards

Several individuals were granted honors and awards as an important component of the graduation ceremony rituals.

Kelly Heath, MD won the coveted Teacher of the Year Award. Each year this competitive award is given by the residents to the faculty member who they feel contributed most substantially to their education and professional training.

Gregory Robbins, MD was the Resident Educator of the Year, and he was awarded the Dr. William Dunbar Award for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation recognizing a resident who excels in patient care. Dr. Robbins also was awarded the 2018 American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine Foundation for Research and Education Resident and Fellow Member Recognition Abstract Award with an abstract titled: “Firing rates and variability differences between motor units and spontaneous activity in needle electromyography.”

Janessa Chang, MD was awarded the Ramesh Gupta, MD Award for Excellence recognizing clinically competent and compassionate patient care by a resident.

Kenton Hagen, MD was awarded the Margaret Grace Stineman Award for Research in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation recognizing a resident who is performing meaningful research that will affect the lives of disabled individuals. Dr. Hagen also was selected by the Evidence Committee and Abstract Review Panel of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation to make an oral presentation at a “late breaking research podium session” of is his research at the 2018 Annual Assembly with an abstract titled: “Examination of the effects of activity measure for post-acute care (AMPAC) scores on inpatient rehabilitation facilities (IRF) discharge outcomes.”

Elizabeth Scholl, MSN, CRNP was awarded the Dr. William Dunbar Award for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation recognizing a staff member who best assists our patients in achieving fuller lives.
