Pennsylvania Hospital’s Internal Medicine Residency Program only accepts applications through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). We cannot process applications received through any other electronic or paper medium. In addition, we strongly encourage applicants to complete the supplemental ERAS application offered through the AAMC’s ERAS program. The additional information in the supplemental application will help our program learn more about your medical education journey, including more meaningful information about work, volunteer, and research experiences, and help us better identify applicants who fit our program environment and mission. The information in the supplemental application, such as preference signaling, will be used to prioritize interview invitations, but will not have a bearing on ultimate ranking.

Applications must be submitted by October 1st and applications submitted earlier will be prioritized for comprehensive review. Selections for interviews will be communicated via ERAS in late-October/early-November, and 8 interview days will be held from mid-November through December.

Interviews for the Internal Medicine Residency program at Pennsylvania Hospital will be held virtually. This decision is in accordance with guidelines from the American Association of Internal Medicine to ensure a safe and equitable process for all applicants. Our program is still considering the possibility of an in-person open house event; a final decision has not been made, and additional information will be provided as this decision evolves. We are excited to host virtual group social events for interviewees to meet current residents outside of the interview day, and will provide more information around the time of your interview.

Preliminary Application

A subset of our preliminary positions are linked our affiliated Penn Neurology and Penn Ophthalmology programs. If you are interested in applying to the combined preliminary year affiliated with either of these advanced programs, please apply only to the advanced program; additional information will be provided at the advanced program’s interview day. Please apply to our preliminary program directly if you would like to be considered for a preliminary position independent of your match to the linked advanced program, or if you are applying to an advanced specialty other than Neurology or Ophthalmology.
