Penn's Inpatient Consultative Palliative Care provides treatment and care during all stages of serious illness.
Inpatient palliative care consults are available at all Penn Medicine hospitals:
- The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania
- Penn Presbyterian Medical Center
- Pennsylvania Hospital
- Chester County Hospital
- Princeton Medical Center
- Lancaster General Hospital
Our inpatient palliative care team members include physicians, advanced practice providers (nurse practitioners and/or physician assistants), social workers, pharmacists, and spiritual care providers (non-denominational chaplains). You may request a palliative care consult yourself, or your attending team may ask palliative care to help in your care.
At each site, one or more of our specialists will meet with you to see whether you may benefit from palliative care services. These consultations are done in collaboration with you and your primary team. They often include focused discussions around pain and symptom management, emotional support, goals of care, and spiritual needs. Sometimes, the team will make recommendations for follow up once you are discharged.
