Emily Gordon, MD, MS ED was born and raised in Tulsa, OK. She left Tulsa in 1998 to attend Emory University in Atlanta, GA. At Emory University she double majored in Chemistry and Neuroscience / Behavioral Biology, graduating in 2002. While at Emory she discovered her love for physiology and decided to pursue a career in medicine. Matriculating at Wake Forest University School of Medicine in 2002, she spent the next four years developing a love for Anesthesiology and Critical Care. After graduating from Wake Forest in 2006, she moved with her family to Philadelphia and started her Anesthesiology training at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Following completion of her residency in 2010, she pursued two additional fellowships in Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology and Critical Care medicine at HUP, finishing her graduate medical education in 2012.
While working with residents in the cardiac operating rooms and in the ICUs, Dr. Gordon became more interested in the teacher / learner relationship. In 2016, she completed her masters in Medical Education at the University of Pennsylvania. With the completion of her masters she hopes to further develop the curriculum in the anesthesiology department for both residents and fellows. Dr. Gordon also has research interests in the significance of debriefing and the use of technology in education.
Outside of the hospital, Dr. Gordon lives in the Philadelphia suburbs with her husband, also a physician, and their four children. She is an avid cyclist and reader.
