The Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care at Hospital of University of Pennsylvania (HUP) and Penn Presbyterian Medical Center (PPMC) provides anesthesia services for the highest acuity patients in the region. The department has been successful in providing exceptional patient care by utilizing a collaborative and cohesive Anesthesia Care Team Model consisting of anesthesiologists, fellows, residents, and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNA). Our primary objective is to provide safe, high-quality, and cost-effective care to all patients at HUP and PPMC.
The expertise and versatility of the CRNAs within the Department of Anesthesiology have allowed the department to expand anesthesia services in both the operating room setting as well as Non-Operating Room Anesthesia settings. There are more than 140 CRNAs practicing at HUP and PPMC. CRNAs participate in the care of a wide variety of surgical cases including ambulatory, cardiac, ophthalmology, orthopedics, transplant, and vascular.
The CRNAs at HUP and PPMC enjoy being part of an Ivy League University that provides several options to expand their educational endeavors. The department supports multiple opportunities to facilitate lifelong learning including conferences, seminars, and classes that contribute to CRNA continuing education. We partner with several of the local SRNA programs and provide interactive, hands-on training for future CRNAs. Many of our staff have continued their education by obtaining a DNP or a PhD and participate in quality improvement projects for the department and the health system.
At Penn Medicine, it is our goal to deliver the safest patient care possible while providing educational resources to promote and enhance professional growth.
