Jesse Kiefer MD MSEd was raised in the Scranton, Pennsylvania area, later graduating from the University of Scranton. He then attended Loyola University Chicago – Stritch School of Medicine, graduating with honors in Bioethics and Professionalism in 2012. Following graduation, he moved to Baltimore, Maryland to complete his anesthesiology residency at the University of Maryland, where he was chief resident. He then chose to pursue additional training in critical care medicine, completing his critical care fellowship at Vanderbilt University in 2017. Later that year, Dr. Kiefer joined the Penn Anesthesiology faculty practicing in the both the operating rooms and intensive care units.
Having experienced considerable curricular and evaluative change throughout his residency, Dr. Kiefer developed a passion for graduate medical education. To gain a deeper understanding of this process, he pursued a Master’s in Education specifically focused on medical education at the University of Pennsylvania. Upon completing his Master’s in 2020, Dr. Kiefer joined the residency leadership team. He believes in fostering a strong educational alliance between residents and faculty.
Jesse, his wife, and son live in the Gradate Hospital neighborhood of Philadelphia. Outside of the hospital, he enjoys family time, cooking, homebrewing, and weekends in Cape May.
