Keeping up with the Radiologists is a podcast from Penn Radiology about the practice of radiology. We talk about science, policy, history, economics, education, resident life, and, of course, the robots which are supposed to replace us. The podcast is hosted by Saurabh (Harry) Jha MBBS MS and Mitch Schnall MD PhD. Harry is a writer and a lapsed Twitterati who believes in the pedagodic value of arguing. Mitch is the Senior Vice President for Data and Technology Solutions for the University of Pennsylvania Health System, a scientist, and a futurist distinctly keen to maintain the relevance of radiologists. Our discussions are spirited, topical, and educational.

Episode 2: The Effects of Scaling Radiology
Radiology is no longer a small cottage industry. It has grown in size because imaging is central to medical decision making. As a result, the labor force has increased. In other words, radiology has scaled. Departments are larger and more impersonal. It isn't uncommon for neuroradiologists to never meet the chest radiologists. The scaling of radiology has positive and negative effects.
Our guest is John List, The Kenneth C. G Griffin Distinguished Service Professor in Economics at the University of Chicago, expert on the economics of organizational scale, and author of "Voltage Effect - How to Make Good Ideas Great and Great Ideas Scale." Also joining our discussion is Nuvid Bhuiyan, a radiology resident who has worked in startups and has seen both cottage industries and scale.

Episode 1: Importance of Interventional Radiology in Nigeria
In Nigeria, interventional radiologists are scarce but of growing importance particularly in combating the still high maternal morbidity from post-partum hemorrhage. Our special guest is Dr. Ofonime ("Fonzy") Ukweh, interventional radiologist from the University of Calabar, Nigeria. Dr. Ukweh is one of Nigeria's very few interventionists. She received her IR training in Tanzania. We discuss how IR expertise can be built in Nigeria and how Penn Radiology can help in this endeavor. Our discussants include Monica Matsumoto MD, radiology resident, and global IR enthusiast, Stephen Hunt MD PhD, interventional radiologist, and Farouk Dako MD MPH, a cardiothoracic radiologist with academic and filial links to Nigeria.
