The mission of Penn Neurosurgery is to provide patient care and conduct research while educating the physicians and scientists of the future in disorders that affect the nervous system.

Specifically, clinical care in the department covers the entire spectrum of disorders that impair the central and peripheral nervous system. Penn Neurosurgery embraces new technologies and seeks the highest quality, cost-effective care by integrating research with clinical practice.

Neurosurgery research, both basic and clinical, competes successfully for external funding and focuses on the translation from the bench to the bedside.

Penn Neurosurgery combines research and clinical care in training the academic neurosurgeons of the future and in providing an environment where medical students, graduate students, physicians and other healthcare providers are integrated and exposed to the field.
