In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, Penn Medicine and the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Pennsylvania Hospital have implemented stringent measures to protect faculty, staff, and trainees. These include daily symptom screening, universal masking (with PPE provided), and enhanced social distancing throughout the laboratory and office areas. Sign out sessions are carried out either remotely via encrypted video conferencing and screen-sharing software, or over a double-headed microscope with plexi-glass shield between the two observers. In addition, all tumor boards, educational sessions, the daily consensus conference, and many individual attending pathologists’ sign-out sessions are broadcast via encrypted video conferencing and screen-sharing software.
