On behalf of the Penn GME team, we want to extend our warmest welcome to all of you!  We are so happy that you have chosen the University of Pennsylvania for your training.  Your achievements thus far are a testament to your dedication, hard work, and unwavering commitment to excellence in medicine.

As Co-Directors of Diversity and Inclusion for GME, we are honored to welcome you to our community.  Our mission is not only to educate and train the next generation of medical professionals, but to foster an environment where every individual can thrive and reach their full potential.  As you embark on this new chapter of your medical journey, we encourage you to embrace every opportunity for growth and learning.  We believe each of you can make a profound impact on medicine, and we are excited to witness your growth and accomplishments during your time here at Penn.

We understand the challenges and demands that come with pursuing a career in medicine, particularly for physicians from historically marginalized groups.  Please know that we are here to support you during this process.  The goal of the Penn GME office is to continue to create a diverse and inclusive environment for our learners.   Some may ask why diversity in medicine is so important.  Apart from the numerous studies and bodies of evidence, we also know from lived experiences that investing in and moving towards a more diverse workforce expands our ability to care for and improve the health of diverse patient populations.   Diversity in medicine adds to the richness of our professional and personal experiences, and everyone is better for it.

Once again, we are excited to welcome you to the University of Pennsylvania!  We are thrilled to have you as part of the Penn GME family; we look forward to getting to know you better and supporting you as you stive towards greatness in your medical careers.  We have no doubt that you will make meaningful contributions to our West Philadelphia community and beyond.

Best regards,
