Mission
Diversity enriches the educational experience by bringing together people from a variety of beliefs, perspectives and backgrounds. A diverse environment serves as good preparation for an increasingly multicultural and global society that requires innovative solutions to address the complex healthcare needs of today's world.
Our mission is to build a diverse and inclusive residency program and to promote diversity in the hospital community. Essential to achieving this goal is the recruitment of the most qualified medical students from all backgrounds, including racial and ethnic minorities as well as LGBT individuals, to our residency program. Penn's residency recruitment is supported by the Alliance for Minority Physicians, a UPHS-CHOP coalition focused on attracting underrepresented minority house staff to the Penn Medicine community. We also welcome diversity in sexual orientation and gender identity in our residency programs and partner with the Penn Medicine Program for LGBT Health for education and social activities.
We are excited about further enriching our residency programs by increasing diversity.
Feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
"Meet the Family" Sessions sponsored by the Alliance of Minority Physicians
The Alliance of Minority Physicians (AMP) is an organization that brings together medical students, residents, fellows, and faculty who are Underrepresented in Medicine (UIM) at the campuses of Penn Medicine and the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). They are hosting several informal "Meet the Family" sessions for applicants to the residency programs at Penn and CHOP. The sessions will give applicants an opportunity to meet and talk with UIM members of our GME community.
Dates for the upcoming interview season will be scheduled in the next few months. We will update this page when with additional information in the near future.
Under-represented in Medicine (UIM) refers to individuals from a background that is traditionally underrepresented in medicine, including but not limited to racial and ethnic populations that are underrepresented in the medical profession relative to their numbers in the general population and those from disadvantaged backgrounds, identify as LGBTQ+, have disabilities, are first generation in the United States or first in their immediate family to attend college, or who otherwise would increase the diversity and inclusivity of our student and resident/fellow populations.
Penn Medicine is an equal opportunity employer and adheres to a policy that prohibits discrimination on the basis of ancestry, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, creed, national or ethnic origin, citizenship status, age, disability, veteran status, or any other legally protected class.
