Women's Imaging

This elective is intended for students who wish to learn more about women's imaging with an emphasis on breast imaging as well as imaging of the female pelvis. The elective allows students the opportunity to be exposed to radiologic procedures and image interpretation. During the rotation, the student observes the daily schedule in the Women's Imaging Center, including digital mammography, tomosynthesis, breast ultrasound, breast MRI, and minimally invasive image-guided procedures. The student will also have the opportunity to observe pelvic/fetal ultrasound, hysterosalpingograms, and pelvic MRI. The student participates in image interpretation sessions with the attendings and residents. The student is expected to attend weekly multidisciplinary conferences, as well as the daily resident conferences. At the end of the elective, the student will be asked to present one or more cases at a resident (case) conference. The student will be asked to read portions of an introductory text on breast imaging/women's imaging, as well as appropriate journal articles. There are opportunities to participate in clinical research.

Body Imaging

This elective is intended for students who wish to learn more about body imaging, with emphasis on CT, MRI, and ultrasound. The elective allows students the opportunity to be exposed to radiologic procedures and image interpretation. During the rotation, the student observes the CT (chest/abdomen/pelvis), body MRI, and ultrasound image interpretation sessions and works with the attendings and residents on these services. The student is expected to attend daily resident conferences, as well as occasional multidisciplinary conferences. At the end of the elective, the student will be asked to present one or more cases at a resident (case) conference. The student will be asked to read portions of an introductory text on body imaging, as well as appropriate journal articles.
