URiM Residents are paired with URiM Penn EM faculty at the beginning of each year. This mentorship program provides professional development, fellowship, and support.

Each year in the spring there is a URiM retreat with activities ranging from yoga to workshops on financial literacy. 

Lift Every Voice

Lift Every Voice is an anonymous digital platform that leverages the power of stories to 1)Capture experiences and observations of racism to understand where and how racism is being experienced at Penn Medicine, 2) To spark conversation empowering staff to think and talk about racism to help promote a culture of inclusion, and 3) to catalyze anti-racist action and policy change from leaders by providing needed information to address racism. 

Lift Every Voice was created by Dr. Gina South and was officially launched on January 9, 2023 in the Department of Emergency Medicine and Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Kristyn Smith serves as the physician lead for the ED and Dr. Abike James for OBGYN.

Alliance of Minority Physicians

The Alliance of Minority Physicians (AMP) was founded in 2012 by an Emergency Medicine physician , Dr. Iris Reyes. It's core mission is to develop leaders in clinical, academic, and community medicine through active recruitment, career development, mentorship, social opportunities, and community outreach. This is geared towards house staff, medical students and faculty at UPHS, CHOP and the Perelman School of Medicine from groups traditionally underrepresented in medicine.

Social EM Curriculum

Social EM Rotation

This curriculum includes an introduction to Social Emergency Medicine as well as an exploration of various topics pertaining to health disparities and social determinants of health. It is our goal to provide training to resident so the social and economic topics that are key to understanding the role of Emergency Medicine in addressing health disparities at a structural level.

Puentes de Salud

Puentes de Salud is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit health and wellness organization that provides medical care and social services to uninsured immigrants in Philadelphia. The Puentes patient community is largely Spanish-speaking and from Central America.
