Penn Medicine has one of the largest teams of full-time ophthalmologists in the country, with 59 clinical & research faculty members across 17 ophthalmic sub-specialties.
In the last fiscal year, Penn ophthalmologists had 130,331 patient visits.

Research

Penn consistently ranks among the top five recipients of National Eye Institute funding.
In the last fiscal year, ophthalmology faculty had 185 publications and an H-Index of 122.
The Department is currently conducting more than 100 clinical trials.

Teaching

The Penn Ophthalmology Department provides teaching and mentoring for students at every phase of their careers, from high school to specialized fellowships and post-doctoral training.
All Penn Ophthalmology residents pursue top fellowships programs.
The Penn Ophthalmology residency program is ranked top 10 in the nation for research output per alumnus.
