How Physicians Can Access Penn Dermatopathology and Penn Cutaneous Pathology Services
Patients interested in obtaining a second opinion or verification on a previous diagnosis should consider discussing the Penn Cutaneous Pathology Services with their physician or health care provider. This is a diagnostic service that provides Penn doctors as well as referring physicians from the Philadelphia region and across the country with state-of-the-art diagnostic and dermatopathology services, including test results within 24 hours from receipt of a biopsy or specimen, in most cases.
Test results are provided by fax, mail or electronically at www.pennmedicine.org/dermpath.
The skin, hair, nail and oral pathology laboratory is staffed by board-certified and nationally recognized skin pathologists and an oral pathologist.
How to Refer to Penn Dermatopathology
To refer or send a specimen or biopsy to Penn Cutaneous Pathology Services, your primary care provider or referring physician should call call 215-662-6539 and provide the following information:
- Physician name(s)
- Practice name
- Address
- Telephone
- Fax
- NPI number
- Report preferences
- Hours of operation
- PECOS enrollment status
- Pick up preference (courier, FedEx, etc.)
- Supply order
To expedite all requests, referring physicians and health care providers may access and review these forms in advance. Due to confidentiality and other restrictions, they will need to call 215-662-6539 and speak to a Penn dermatopathology service representative in order to obtain or provide patient information.
- Include a front and back copy of the patient's medical insurance card.
- For consultation requests, include the original report and any materials that need review in addition to the patient's demographic and insurance information.
