The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Perelman School of Medicine and The University of Pennsylvania Health System has a long tradition of excellence in patient care, residency and fellowship training, and research on women’s health and reproduction. We strive to provide comprehensive high quality, patient-centered care and improve the health and well-being of all women through our translational and clinical research programs. Penn Ob/Gyn is a national leader in women’s health.

We offer a wide range of clinical services throughout Southeastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Over the past 10 years we have expanded our services to meet the needs of the community. In addition to providing obstetrical and routine gynecologic care, we have unique programs focused on diabetes in pregnancy, preterm birth, PCOS, fertility preservation for cancer patients and women choosing to delay child-bearing, reproductive health care for the LGBTQ community, male and female fertility, pelvic health and urinary incontinence, family planning and cancer care. We have developed innovative approaches to the delivery of health care – using social media, apps, and text-based messaging. Learn more about our clinical programs.

Our residency and fellowship training programs have an excellent reputation for providing a broad range of clinical opportunities for training in all aspects of obstetrics and gynecology. Residents and fellows are strongly encouraged to participate in mentored research and other scholarly pursuits, including patient-oriented research, basic laboratory-based investigation, as well as translational research projects. Our faculty are committed to training the next generation of specialists, sub-specialists, physician-investigators and leaders in women’s health.

Penn Medicine is proud to have one of the premier research programs in women’s health, the Center for Research on Reproduction and Women’s Health. Here, we are conducting basic, translational and clinical research on preterm birth, epigenetics and reproduction, fertility preservation, gamete biology, pelvic floor disorders, gynecologic oncology, contraception, preeclampsia, severe maternal morbidity, and ectopic pregnancy. We have a growing portfolio of research on quality, equity, and outcomes research. The department’s Women’s Health Clinical Research Center assists faculty, residents and fellows with patient-oriented research. The Penn Ovarian Cancer Research Center is focused on the pathogenesis and early detection of ovarian cancer and the development of new therapeutic approaches such as immune therapy and targeted drug development.
