The Penn Medicine Clinical Simulation Center is a 22,000 square foot facility located near Rittenhouse Square in Center City, 10 minutes from the hospital. The Center is equipped with high-fidelity laparoscopic simulators, a labor and delivery suite, an operating room, exam rooms, and conference rooms with video equipment.
Six times per year, alternating OB and GYN content, residents have the opportunity to learn and practice in a safe environment, in small groups with dedicated faculty. We have a two-year curriculum focused on surgical skills, team training, and communication skills. Our goal is to increase resident knowledge and confidence as well as to improve patient safety.
Obstetrical multi-disciplinary team training is held monthly for nurses, residents, and attending physicians in obstetrics, anesthesia and neonatology. Medical students are also assigned to The Simulation Center for training in basic procedures such as normal vaginal delivery, venipuncture, foley insertion, suturing and knot tying. Certification courses in NRP and ACLS are available.
