Interview Information 2023-2024

Our residency program has transitioned to a “virtual” interviewing platform this year!

As a candidate for our residency program, our goal is to engage you in a dynamic experience on your interview day.

Your interview day will include meeting department leaders in the field of Anesthesiology and learn of the innovative approaches to our residency curriculum.

Your visit to Penn Medicine will begin with a resident meet and greet the night before your interview day. You will have the opportunity to meet our currents residents and get answers to the questions you may have.

We look forward to getting to know you.

Our Anesthesiology Residency program participates in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) and the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Please provide the following information via ERAS:

  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Personal Statement
  • Medical School Transcript
  • USMLE Scores
  • Dean's Letter (MSPE)
  • Three (3) Letters of Recommendation: One letter must be from an anesthesiologist.

Our program offers Categorical (four year), Advanced (three year) and Reserved (physicians only)tracks. Residency candidates may specify any or all tracks when they apply through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Interview offers are not based upon applications to a specific track. After applicant interviews, we will determine track preferences. Candidates may change their preferences up until the time that we submit our lists. If you are invited to interview, you will find out more about each track, and we will ask your track preference before our Match list is submitted.

International Medical Graduates must be ECFMG certified to be considered for an interview. We require some U.S. clinical experience. Observerships do not meet this requirement. We do not have a timeframe for graduation from medical school; we are more interested in what you have done in the time since graduating. Applications are accepted only through ERAS.

Applicants are responsible for ensuring that application materials have been completed and properly submitted to ERAS. The Resident Selection Committee will review all completed applications and will select applicants for interviews.

Due to the large number of applicants, interviews will be arranged by invitation only.

A passing score on USMLE Step II (CK and CS) is required for all trainees beginning our program. To meet this requirement, applicants should have passed USMLE Step II.
