James C. Reynolds, MD graduated from Florida State University where he received his medical degree from the University of Florida. There, he was president of his class and received several honors, including admission to Alpha Omega Alpha as a junior, the John B. Gorrie Award as the student with best promise for outstanding performance, and research awards. Dr. Reynolds completed his residency at Cornell University and a three-year fellowship in gastroenterology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Reynolds joined the faculty at the University of Pennsylvania, where he rose to Associate Chief of the program. While there he remained funded by the NIH and other national organizations for his research in the effect of neuropeptides on gastrointestinal motility. Dr. Reynolds was appointed Chief, Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at the University of Pittsburgh.
In 1996 Dr. Reynolds was appointed Professor of Medicine with tenure and Chief of the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Drexel University College of Medicine and Program Director. Dr. Reynolds held numerous leadership roles at Drexel University’s College of Medicine and Hahnemann University Hospital. Dr. Reynolds served as president of the medical staff at Hahnemann University Hospital and was a member of the hospital Board of Directors. In 2005 Dr. Reynolds was named the June F. Klinghoffer Distinguished Chairman of the Drexel University Department of Medicine. Dr. Reynolds is a member of the editorial board of Digestive Diseases and Sciences and is a reviewer for a large number of journals. He has published over 100 manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals, and has co-edited five books.
Dr. Reynolds has received numerous honors including Phi Beta Kappa, AOA, “Physician of the Year” by the Greater Pittsburgh Chapter of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America, and recognition as the most outstanding gastroenterologist in Pittsburgh on two separate occasions by the Pittsburgh Magazine. Dr. Reynolds was named among Philadelphia’s “Top Docs” twice by the Philadelphia Magazine. He has received teaching awards in both basic sciences and clinical sciences from the University of Pennsylvania and Drexel University. Dr. Reynolds held the role of Director of the GI Neurogastroenterology and Motility program until being appointed Chief, Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology by the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
