Dr. Peter G. Traber received his undergraduate degree (B.S.) in Chemical Engineering at the University of Michigan in 1977, his M.D. from Wayne State Medical School in Michigan in 1981, and he subsequently trained as a gastroenterologist, after completing an internal medicine residency at Northwestern University School of Medicine in Chicago. After a faculty position at the University of Michigan, he became Chief of Gastroenterology at the University of Pennsylvania from 1992-1997 with NIH funded research in the transcriptional regulation of intestinal proliferation and differentiation. Subsequently, from 1997-2000, he held positions as Chair of the Department of Internal Medicine, Chief Executive Officer of the University of Pennsylvania Health System and Interim Dean at Penn. He then served as Senior Vice President for Clinical Development & Medical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer at GlaxoSmithKline. Thereafter, Dr. Traber was President of Baylor College of Medicine. He is currently President, CEO, & CMO of Galectin Therapeutics Inc.
