HUP doctors and fellows

Scholarly Activities

  • Quality Improvement Project. Fellows participate in a structured curriculum to learn about quality improvement methods and processes. Fellows work under the guidance of a quality improvement expert to investigate a QI issue they encounter in the inpatient, ambulatory, or hospice setting. As a group, fellows execute a QI project and present their findings to the entire program during Palliative Care Case Conference.
  • Scholarly Project. Fellows have dedicated time for scholarly pursuits. Mentorship is provided to fellows to assist with identifying and executing a project. Many fellows have presented their scholarly work at national conferences or published manuscripts in peer reviewed journals.
  • Planned Presentations and Teaching Opportunities. Each Fellow will prepare presentations for Palliative Medicine Grand Rounds. Fellows also lead journal club, give lectures during fellow didactic series, and teach at Penn Internal Medicine resident report. Additional opportunities for teaching occur throughout the year.

Mentorship

  • Fellows are paired with faculty mentors who guide the acquisition of competence in the clinical, teaching, research and advocacy skills pertinent to the discipline. Mentors will be selected based on a fellow's career interests and goals.
  • Fellows will participate in semi-structured peer-mentoring with other fellows.
