The internal medicine residency program at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania is proud to continue a rich tradition of leadership in academic and clinical medicine.

Our training program is built around the core values of academic rigor, commitment to outstanding patient care, diversity and inclusion, and collaborative teamwork excellence. Affiliated with the nation’s oldest school of medicine, we build on a proud tradition of academic achievement while continually innovating and exploring novel approaches to optimize resident education. We seek to provide compassionate, cutting-edge care to both our local community and to patients who seek us out from around the region, nation, and world. We serve a wonderfully diverse Philadelphia community and seek to enhance our own community with trainees who represent many voices, racial and gender identities, and cultural backgrounds. Supported by our dedicated faculty and committed departmental leadership, we foster a strong sense of teamwork by valuing each member of our inpatient and outpatient care teams, and by creating supportive environments in which all team members can contribute and thrive.

We are committed to working with each of our residents to develop an individualized training experience that allows them to pursue specific personal career objectives. The combination of a diverse patient population, an outstanding and dedicated faculty, and a strong research institution provides residents in our program with necessary ingredients for a robust educational experience.
