Associate Professor of Surgery
The Penn Surgical Education and Simulation Fellowship is a two-year program that is designed to provide the fellow with training and experience in medical education techniques as well as an understanding of current simulation technologies and modalities. The fellow will lead and direct the simulation program for current surgical residents and be an integral part of the educational design team in the Department of Surgery. The fellow will also be enrolled in a two-year Masters of Education program through the Penn Graduate School of Education. Upon completion of the program the fellow will obtain a M.S.Ed. in medical education. This program is an executive style leadership curriculum that will instill the fellow instructional skills and administrative knowledge in the hopes of becoming a leader in the medical education space.
At the completion of the fellowship, the fellow will have gained competencies in how to conduct both quantitative and qualitative educational studies, how to effectively communicate knowledge across media types, how to develop an educational initiative, and how to develop a career in medical education.
It is anticipated that upon completion of the fellowship that the fellow will be prepared to become an innovator and leader in academic surgical education.
